Mrs. Sandy Anderson

Mrs. Sandy Anderson

Mrs. Anderson has been a teacher at SJAS since 1978! She has taught 1st and 2nd grade. Mrs. Anderson attended the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, MN. Mrs. Anderson and her husband Dick have 4 children: Nate, Matt, Mary, and Emily and 11 grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson enjoys walking, sewing, crafting, and spending time with family. She LOVES to collect childrens books! Mrs. Anderson loves teaching and is glad to be at such a wonderful school.

In 2012, Mrs. Anderson was one of 12 teachers in the country to receive the NCEA Distinguished Teacher Award. She has received the LEEA (Leadership in Educational Excellence) Award and is listed as a Who's Who Among American Educators. Mrs. Anderson became Barton trained in 2016. Barton is a wonderful tutoring system for individuals who struggle with spelling, reading, and writing due to dyslexia or a learning disability.

About the Classroom

  • In Science we learn the life cycle of animals and watch the process with butterflies, tadpoles, wax worms and meal worms
  • We work hard to prepare for Reconciliation and First Holy Eucharist
  • In Math, we learn addition and subtraction facts to 18

Other Things to Know

  • Home folders go home each day
  • Class newsletter goes home on Friday
  • 2nd graders read, test, and pass 100 AR books
  • Students should make 100 addition fast in three minutes by December
  • Students should make 100 subtraction facts in three minutes by May
  • Memorize the Act of Contrition Prayer
  • We have Library once a week
  • We prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist but your child will receive with your own parish
